Sorry haven't posted in quite awhile. Been going through some stuff.

Anyway, I am taking a class with Kathy Shaw and we are using silk threads. Here are the threads I am using.

Top Right - Flat Silk from JEC (I get it from California)

Top Left - Soie No 30 made in France (won these at Needle n Thread they can be purchased from Needle in a Haystack)

Bottom Right - Pipers Silk Thread (from England)

Lower Left - have more of these ones. They come in # 5, #8, and #12. Made in Switzerland but I can purchase these locally.

My critique

The threads from JEC are very prone to static and somewhat difficult to work with. They are thicker than the Pipers and do not need to be doubled. They are supposed to be separable but every time I have tried it wasn't pretty. Will not purchase these again.

The Soie threads are fantastic to work with but are thicker. Once I stock up on Pipers will start looking at these, need to find the store again.

Pipers threads are a dream to work with compared to JEC. They are finer and I have been using them doubled. I also just placed an order for more of them.

The Swiss threads are also great to work with. They are twisted so not staticy and the sizes are equivalent to Perle threads in the corresponding weight. Will over time purchase more of these.

Hope everyone had a great 2018.

I hope to have something to show you soon. Haven't been doing much of any crafts lately. Still adjusting to going back to work even though it is just part time.

Tomorrow I plan on making up a bunch of my blocks for the beetle body. Still have some of the legs to stitch as well and I will get to back to them soon.
Sorry for not posting the last couple of weeks. Haven't been doing much stitching.
On a different note I saw these on pinterest one day and had to make one. I have the beads for a few more as well.
Here are the basic blocks for the beetle legs. The yellow walls in that room are distorting the colors. They are all grey to black. Still need to sew them onto muslin and embellish them all.

4x4" 6 blocks (only 1 seam)
4x8" 8 blocks (3 seams)
4x12" 8 blocks (5 seams)
triangle 44 blocks. (only 1 seam)

There will be a total of 114 seams for the legs.

SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT

This is something I was playing with while on my hiatus. Is supposed to be for an earring but I altered the pattern just a touch and can use it for a CQ block some day is less than 2 x 2 inches.
I know it has been awhile since I last posted. Was going through a lot of stuff and didnt' want to bore you it. I am in a better frame of mind again and will try to make an effort to post more often.

Am embarking on a huge Crazy Quilting Project. Basic blocks are designed and some of the fabric is ironed and will hopefully start making the blocks today.

The blocks when sewn together will be in the shape of a beetle which will them be appliqued onto some brown fabric. Also each block will have a stumpwork beetle on it measuring approx. 3.4" to 2 1/2".

The inner beetle will be on 55 white and light gray blocks measuring 6x6" with some half blocks.

The legs will be light to dark gray blocks measuring 4x4", 4x8" and 4x12".

I will be starting on the legs as that was the fabric that I have ironed and waiting.

Will keep you posted.

Took my time but here is my first item of the year. This will be one of twelve center pieces for a set of crazy quilt blocks. Will have some all bead butterflies and am thinking of a wire filigree one as well.
Wings are done using a modified "Long and Short" stitch with some beads and sequins added. The head is Satin stitch and the body is "Ghiordes Knot".
Been going through tests and tired of writing about my health problems.

Have not been able to work on the 2020 CQ challenge but did start (slowly and am behind already) the 500 seam challenge with Kathy Shaw. The idea is to do a seam a day until all 500 are done from her new book. I already had the book and figured that is something easy I can do but will be behind a lot.

Here is seam 1 and 2.
Will try to post more regularly.
