ALYoF - May 2014

Managed to get this done finally.  Have you ever had a quilt that just did not want to go together.  Everything went okay until the binding.  The corners are still not sitting right and I gave up and sewed them down anyway.  No idea what it's problem is and I got to the point that I dont care just wanted it done and out of the way.  Maybe the fact that I do not like the colors at all might have had something to do with it.  This is a BoM from one of the local quilt shops and was also my May ALYoF goal.

I quilted it on my regular sewing machine mainly stitch in the ditch with some fmq.  I can do this size without too much difficulty (arm/shoulder only gave me grief for a couple of days versus 2 weeks form quilting the queen size quilt).

Friday finishes

I have been keeping myself busy as always.  Did manage a few finishes this week.

My first embroidered/ribbon embroidered pincushion/paperweight.  As you can see by the first picture it has been Rusty approved.

My other finish is also a pincusion this one done on the embroidery machine all in the hoop.  Again it is Rusty approved (the little ham, he loves the camera).  The owl's wings open up for a needle keeper as well as a pin cushion.  There are 3 little pockets on the front of the owl for scissors etc.

2 more Christmas gifts done

Got these ones restuffed and I think they look a lot better now.  They will get packed away until Christmas with the others.

These are silk ribbon embroidery with bead accents.  Basic pattern came from Kathy Shaw with some changes.  She designed them as pincushions I made them as door hangers.

Blogger's Quilt Festival 2014 - entry

I have entered my "Witches in Stitches Boo-tique" quilt in the Small Quilt Category (had entered into the mini category by mistake, just deleted that entry and re-entered it in the small).

Description of the quilt.

- hand embroidered
- some piecing (done by machine)
- some applique (done by machine)
- quilting done by me on my regular sewing machine
- pattern from Oh My Bloomin Threads
- approx 60 by 60 inches

Story behind the quilt.

I started this quilt shortly before being diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2012.  It is one of the quilts that I worked on when I was able to; while going through surgeries, chemo then radiation.  It was one of the easier ones to work on as it was so light and portable.  Once all of the squares were embroidered it sat for awhile until I was able to do the cutting and piecing then the quilting.  So from beginning to end I think it took me about 2 years.  I still have to quilt the other 2 applique quilts that I was working on during this time as well.

Voting starts on May 24th so make sure you go check out the eye candy and place your vote(s)  Bloggers Quilt Festival 2014.

W.I.P. 5-14-2-14

Sorry I haven't been posting lately.  Been feeling out of sorts for some reason, still don't know what was causing it but it appears to be gone now.

Works In Progress

1.  Hexie quilt haven't really worked on it.  Other things keep getting bumped up.

2.  Did get another one of the kaleidoscope hexies made.  This is a long term project.

 3.  Made a few christmas gifts.  Might need to add more stuffing to them.  What do you think?  One is misshapen as well.  These will be for 3 different people.

4.  This will be for my crazy quilting.  Learnt how to make beaded cabochons.

5.  Saw this quilt online so went looking for the book and found it.  Started this on Monday.  The lonestar is the center of the quilt.  Have a lot of paper piecing to do around the borders which I probably won't get to until next week. Sorry for the triangle quilt background, my bed was the only safe place to take the picture.

6.  Started this last night.  Have made one once before quite awhile ago.  Local quilt shop was offering a class so went.  Was fun and I did learn a few tips/tricks.  Will be doing 6" and 12" finished size blocks.

So as you can see I have been busy.

May goals for ALYoF

I missed the last month or 2 just had too much on the go and missed the deadlines for posting my goals and/or finishes.

One of the local BoM's finished in April.  I would like to get these make into a quilt complete with binding by the end of the month.  The following is only 8 of the blocks haven't taken a picture of the other 4.  I am only doing a lap/quilt size quilt this time.  My arm and shoulder haven't recovered from doing Triangle Madness yet.
